Open Science is not yet perceived as a concrete option in AAT collaborative research projects. OSCAR – Open Science Aeronautic & Air Transport Research – addresses the current perception, acceptance and implementation of Open Science in the field of European AAT research and in those areas where European AAT research issues interact, e.g. other modes of transport and technology exchange.
OSCAR pursues an open science concept with a special focus on AAT research, triggering deployment in aeronautics and air transport where:
• The concept of Open Science is widely known in the European aviation sector, also taking into account related research areas such as the digitalization of Industry 4.0, materials science, etc. and is implemented at least in pilot cases. Interfaces with other modes of transport, with intermodality and with related technological domains are considered.
• The message of a balance achieved between Open Science and IPR protection, which maximizes beneficial, transparent and fair openness while maintaining IPR and related competitiveness, has been convincingly spread through a Code of Conduct.
• The project consortia concerned are well guided to effectively apply the Open Science Code of Conduct, tailored to the characteristics of the individual project and individual researchers, even in their day-to-day work.
• A paradigm shift towards the implementation of Open Science in European aviation research was initiated.
